This year’s Women in Comedy Festival (WICF), sponsored by HBO, will bring together more than 150 performers and artists to celebrate and showcase women in comedy. TWO WICF shows you should be putting on your radar include Smart, Funny, & Black, created by comedian, actress and producer, Amanda Seales (HBO’s Insecure. Seales) and Theme Park Improv (featuring participants Rachel Dratch, John Michael Higgins, Michael Hitchcock, and more) which will appeal to improv lovers and those who like to laugh.
“Smart, Funny & Black” happens Saturday, May 9th at The Wilbur and is Amanda Seales’ own creation. Seales will invite the funniest folk around to the “Hall of Flava,” to compete, in a head to head battle of brain marbles that will put their knowledge of black history, black culture, and the black experience to the test. At the night’s end one guest will bear the “L” bad, while the other will be crowned and inducted into the “Illustrious League of Master Blacksperts.” OH, so much darn glory!
Theme Park Improv is scheduled for Saturday, May 9th at WBUR CitySpace in Boston, Massachusetts. The show features improvisers who take a single suggestion of a theme from the audience, and wing an entire set of fast-paced long-form scenes and characters, based on stories from a special guest monologist. Previous shows have sold out at events like SF Sketchfest, Colossal Clusterfest, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Moontower, Bentzen Ball, The Vancouver Comedy Festival and The Rooftop Comedy Fest.
Don’t miss this chance to see funny women showing what they do best!
