POTUS #1, George Washington, deemed November 26, 1789 the first nationwide thanksgiving celebration in America, which has been an ravenous American tradition ever since. Long before that the Pilgrims, who emigrated from England, brought over their English traditions of “Days of Fasting” and “Days of Thanksgiving” to the New World. The tradition of Thanksgiving was adopted from the Wampanoag Indians’ interaction with the Pilgrims approximately 400 years ago. (Also, I am not a history major). The Pre-Thanksgiving All Native American Improv Show happening Wednesday, November 27th at UCB Franklin featuring some of the funniest Native American performers in Los Angeles, can be considered the official “You’re Welcome” to all the Non Native Americans who have given thanks at the dinner table ever since.
