Critically Ashamed is a serial dramedy that follows two struggling New York inhabitants through their aspiring journey within the NY comedy environment. Delia (Franca Paschen), is a comedian and German immigrant who is trying to find a comedy gig that permits her to stay in the country, while Giulia, pronounced “Julia,” (Giuditta Lattanzi) is an actress hoping she’s not already washed up before her quickly approaching, self-set deadline. The one big thing they have in common is having big dreams while working at the same NY comedy club. The dichotomy lies in Giulia being frustrated having worked as a waitress at the club for ages, where Delia is the fresh face laser-focused on pursuing her goals. While their paths have yet to cross, their connection expresses itself throughout the series.
November 12, Volume 1 of the series will premiere in New York, followed by a national release date of November 13th. The series has already been killing it on the festival circuit with recognition from the Los Angeles Stand Up Comedy Film Festival, New York Lift-Off Online Fest, Miami Independent Film Fest, Women’s Comedy Film Festival Atlanta, Chain Film Fest, Sydney Web Fest, Revolution Me Film Fest, Baltimore Next Media Web Fest, The Short Film Awards, and Amsterdam Lift-Off Online Fest. The series also features a diverse cast of actors and standup comedians, including Bengali-American comedian/actor Usama Siddiquee playing Saleem. Do yourself a solid and catch this clip in which it’s clear Giulia’s at peak side gig frustration.
