DMXX (aka Don’t Mess with the eXtra eXcellence) is back at The Peoples Improv Theater TOMORROW for more improv badassery. The team was established after a course with Katy Berry of the hip hop improv team Northcoast. DMXX has been rapping, dancing and improving all over the country ever since. If you’re wondering what hip hop improv is, let DMXX explain,
“hip hop improv is a hybrid of longform improvised comedic scene-work and freestyle rapping with a beatboxer. Successfully combining comedy with music, rhyming and dancing is no small feat. Every show has never been done before and will never be done again, as all inspiration is spawned from a suggestion of a word or phrase from the audience.“
I can hear the hamster wheel in that noggin chugging along now! DMXX takes great pride in showcasing it’s all woman-identifying hip-hop improv collective, offering up a diverse lineup every show. At each show, DMXX enlists women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming stand-ups and improv teams as openers to set the stage for their set to follow. The team consists of Roxie Wilson, Marissa Stuart, Hannah Cassius, Alana Johnson, Alli Guerra, and Kristina Stasi. Won’t you join them for an absolutely unrehearsed, unplanned improv spectacular at The PIT Underground?! GO!
Mentions: Show 9pm. $10 tickets HERE. PIT Underground is located at 123 E 24th St (b/t Park & Lex), New York, NY 10010.
