Did you know that FIFA banned the vuvuzela after the 2010 World Cup? Also, the caxirola was to be the official musical instrument of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but it wasn’t allowed inside stadiums of the World Cup and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup because it could be used as a projectile weapon. (We just can’t have nice things, can we?) That is the extent of my soccer knowledge, kids. Lucky for you, you can expand on that wealth of facts Sunday, January 27 at Caveat! The comedic variety show SOCCER AFTERNOON LIVE! will examine the “international phenomenon” of a sport and “why it’s exquisite, a bit evil, but still worth the day-drinking.” Your hosts Jon Hudson (KickTV, MLS, NBC) and Neil Sharma (DeadassTV) will get to the underbelly of just how soccer got infiltrated by corporate greed (and maybe how it got associated with so many noise-producing instruments, please?) To aid in the journey, the hosts will welcome some super funny, soccer aficionado/comedians as well as journalists, personalities, former/current athletes, an official referee and a Hooligans Section. Be there!
