Today Comedy Central dropped three episodes of the deliciously clever and funny digital series ASTRONOMY CLUB. Of course, we thought we’d share them ALL, but before that, some info. Improv/sketch team Astronomy Club (Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Raymond Cordova, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses, James III, and Keisha Zollar) started as a Lloyd team at UCB NY in ’14, “becoming only the second group to ever audition, get called back, and be placed on Lloyd Night as a self-formed team.” They’ve brought New York and Los Angeles many laughter-filled performances and have been Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch”, but it’s time to break out even further. To the INTERNET we go!
The team excels at satire that exposes our imprudence, prejudice and plain foolishness. In their new sketch George Washington Carver, a gathering of history’s great black inventors reveals there is one among them that they don’t believe has the right stuff to be remembered by future generations. Ooops. Peanut butter, anyone? (WARNING: Some fighting words.)
The sketch Relationship Status tackles that subject singles just dread facing. You have no idea what the situation is with that person you admire but you want to ask them out. What do you? It’s time for that internet sleuthing! Kids, what did they do back in Sherlock Holmes days? Enjoy! (WARNING: More flavorful adult language and some cyber stalking)
Lastly, a Witch Hunt is afoot! Two women are on trial in Black Salem. Can they convince the townsfolk that they are merely being persecuted for their autonomous, powerful spirit? You might have already guessed the answer, ugh. Happy Weekend! (WARNING: Ack, oversized frogs, run! This is for the adults, kiddies.)
