Caveat’s UNDERGROUND SCIENCE FESTIVAL is already underway bringing you events that celebrate the science buried by racism and sexism. There are a bevy of events to grab your attention this weekend and Caveat’s conveniently sorted them by handy categories in their Festival Guide. However, we thought we put in our two cents for the comedy-laced shows you might want to check out in the days ahead:
LITERATI
TONIGHT, Friday, June 1st
Literati combines comedians in character with hilarious readings for an evening of satirical entertainment. Yes, sometimes wigs are involved. The show is hosted by Colin O’Brien (JFL New Faces) and special guest co-host Becky Chicoine (Reductress) who, of course, love to read. They would desperately love to share the love of literature with you this very eve! Guest panelists will include

SCIENCE EXCLAMATION POINT

Veteran improv team Thank You, Robot presents… Science Exclamation Point!, the long-running monthly show that offers two short, entrancing science lectures that inspire sets of hilarious, never-to-be-seen-again improv comedy. Thank You, Robot are seasoned entertainers who’s credits include Veep, This American Life, The Onion, SNL Weekend Update and more. You’ll be treated a special guest team with lectures curated by Dr. Ben Lillie. This Underground Science Fair should be extra special!

HYPOTHESISTERS: Songs of Scientific Women

Hosted by The Harvard Computers Alexandria Iona (Cold Coffee, UCB) & Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand (Edge In Motion), Hypothesisters is a cabaret featuring original songs by Kate Villa (The Break With Michelle Wolf), Lisa Mongillo (Reductress), Grace Oberhofer (BMI) and Amanda D’Archangelis (Single Rider: The Musical). You’ll be treated to subject matters like “discoveries, nuclear fission, fossilized shit, and women saving the world.” What more could you ask for? The show will feature Hannah Shealy (Williamstown Theater Festival), Liz Damuth (54 Below), and Jen Kwok (Friends from College) with characters from Monique Moses (Broad City, UCB), Maggie Widdoes (Dead Meet, UCB), Molly Ruben-Long(JFL), Glennis LaRoe (Come Ova), Fareeha Khan (SUP), Juliet Prather (SUP), and musical direction by by Michael Kaish (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical). SYMPOSIUM: Academic Stand Up
Sunday, June 3
An evening of research-inspired stand-up comedy? Count us in! Say “ta-ta” those boring, old lectures. At Symposium you can see academics, researchers, teachers, and comics take the mic to invigorate your brain with cutting-edge notions. You’ll get a look into what research & teaching is really like in the worlds of statistics, evolution, philosophy, history, and more. Let the stereotype breaking and dirty laundry airing begin with these featured guests: Saad Sarwana, Raj Sivaraman, Natalia Reagan, Andrea Jones-Rooy, Kasha Patel, Maryam Zaringhalam, and Baba Brinkman.

“Subversive science comedy, unconventional deep dives into the failures that drive science, and introductions to the unsung and forgotten heroes who should have had credit all along”, this fest has it all! Fest events end June 6th!
