This month comedian DICK SATORI brings his stand up storytelling show to NYC for the Emerging Artists Theatre’s 25th Anniversary New Works Series. The nationally touring Recovery Comedian will bring his fifth & most personal solo comedy show, Monkey Off Back – Circus Still In Town!, to the TADA! Theatre March 10th. The show “was developed thru stand up for predominantly the community of people in recovery from addiction” but Satori is giving it more universal appeal via the medium of storytelling. Per Satori, he’s been doing comedy for “somewhere between 7 years and 25 years.” He started his comedy career at 15, joining the circus as a clown, juggler, and roustabout. His solo work just happens to tell “the funny yet cautionary tale of a kid who runs away to join the circus only to find his true sell… in handcuffs, rodeos, and smokey church basements.” Go figure!
The show was workshopped as part of Richmond VA’s award winning Firehouse Theater Fringe series October ’15 and had it’s World Premier in NYC November ’15 as an official selection of SOLOCOM Festival. From there it was performed at Frontera Fringe Festival in Austin Texas, Fringe PVD in Providence Rhode Island, and thru 15 states. Did I mention Satori has been a finalist at The Catch A New Rising Star contest in NJ and shares two Guinness World Record for Longest Stand-Up Comedy Show with multiple performers, working with comics like Eric Andre’, Hannibal Buress, Rory Scovel, Myq Kaplan, and Nate Bargatze along the way? It’s Satori’s mission to help people heal through laughter. With four years of long-term recovery under his belt, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival in his sights, we think he’s guaranteed to take the world by storm with this unique story!
