Christopher Cooper, the hotrod artist more famously known as Coop, received some unsolicited attention yesterday on Chris Hardwick’s @midnight show last night. It all started with this tweet (posted in early 2012)
Whenever one of my friends retweets Seth MacFarlane, I die a little inside. #worsethanHitler
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) January 26, 2012
The tweet was then read out during an @midnight segment exposing the Internet’s love for hashtagging tweets #WorseThanHitler. Contestants had to decide if 3 tweets actually contained the bold hashtag.
Coop’s tweet DID contain the hashtag and Hardwick stated “Maybe this guy’s proportion and his compass is out of whack. I don’t know. That’s just what it said.” A few fairly innocent jokes followed from the comedic contestants and it seemed to end there.
Of course, Coop fans brought the @midnight segment to the attention of the artist
Pssst @ARTofCOOP This happened on that new game show At Midnight just now. http://t.co/zNBjQlYuWR

Coop took the news in stride
I guess @nerdist made fun of me on his TV show – oh woe is me
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
then threw out some real witty jabs in his defense
@FredFromHon @LucindaLunacy if being derided by fake nerds is the worst cross I have to bear, I'll postpone the wrist-slitting for now
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
.@LucindaLunacy if @nerdist wants to side with the human Anti-Life Equation that is Seth MacFarlane, good for him.
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
@erik2690 yes, I'll see you in Nerd Court
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
The Hardwick fans soon chimed in and Coop was kinda forced to respond
.@erik2690 oh my god, "fake nerd" is calling someone's character into question? Get to your fainting couch quick!
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
and bask in the Twitter publicity
If @nerdist making fun of me sells some posters, great – until then I'll be over here watching MacMillan & Wife reruns on Netflix
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
FINALLY, Hardwick pointed out the segment was not intended to cause Coop any problems
@ARTofCOOP if that’s true just know it was not malicious!
— Chris Hardwick (@nerdist) October 23, 2013
Coop acknowledged Hardwick’s response in his own special way
@nerdist okay, I'll stop the Satanic Destruction Ritual I sta- oops, too late. Umm, you should probably stay indoors for a while
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
Even Coop’s pal Marc Maron checked in
@marcmaron I dunno pal – just waiting to duck the next monkey turd tossed in my direction.
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
Yet the Nerdgate seemed to continue (which I didn’t mind)
The mark of a true nerd is knowing what the acronym TARDIS stands for, and bullying people with less power/fame/status
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
which can be wearing
Now I'm just too pissed off to go to bed
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
but Coop stood by his original tweet and expounded upon it
And yes, Seth MacFarlane IS worse than Hitler – at least Hitler had the decency to commit suicide when he knew everyone was sick of him.
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
and thanked the fans that supported him
Thanks to everyone congratulating me on my debut as an unpaid comedy writer on @midnight last night.
— Christopher Cooper (@ARTofCOOP) October 23, 2013
Coop can now add comedy writer to his list of credits.
Mentions: Coop and Hardwick are really nice guys. I hope a happy partnership can be garnered from this episode. Nerds forever. Check out Coop’s amazing artwork HERE and HERE. Watch @midnight M-F 12A/11C on Comedy Central.
