BOB NEWHART may have gained a whole new legion of fans from his appearances as Arthur Jeffries on The Big Bang Theory. However, this gal was hooked for life after watching the entertainer’s classic sitcoms Newhart and The Bob Newhart Show in her youth. Who can ever forget “Hi. I’m Larry. This is my brother Darryl and this is my other brother Darryl”? Not me! The beloved comic, actor and writer, best known for his calm demeanor and hesistant stammer, joined Conan O’Brien yesterday on the CONAN show for a nostalgic look back at his amazing career, which includes a nod to his comedy buddy, the late Don Rickles.
Watch as Bob shows off how easily he can get a laugh with a simple pause. I don’t think the host ever knew it was coming.
In this clip Bob explains an oversight in The Bob Newhart Show credits that Chicago fans have been pointing out for years.
For all you comics pondering whether you should write all your own material, Bob shares a story of how he tried to sell his writing at the beginning of his career. During the clip Newhart also informs the audience he only started out with 12 minutes of material when he was doing stand-up. He recalls a gig opening for the American singer Peggy Lee that probably motivated the comedian to write more material. Enjoy!
Mentions: Watch CONAN weeknights 11/10c on TBS.
