If being banned for life from Chicago’s City Winery gives you street cred, then this Chicago comedy band is off to a healthy start! THE BIG DITTIES don’t live by convention and they certainly don’t rock by it either. Their new video, which premiered on Funny Or Die, is a testament to how they roll. In the “Momedy” vid, we find ourselves at a child’s birthday party gone amuck. According to the band, the video was inspired by true events. Per band memberDittie DJ K-Heyyy, “I was at a school event when the kids were doing karaoke on stage and they were AWFUL. So I had this whole image in my head of The Big Ditties pushing the kids out of the way and taking over and showing them how it’s done. Also the hook being ‘Mom, just quit the band!’ means ‘Mom give up your dreams and grow up!!” and I loved the idea of us being like ‘Hell no! Why should we?!’” And given up their dreams, they have not! The band is composed of
DJ K-Heyyy (Kelli Owens), a mom associated with projects like Better Than Ezra and Edwin McCain, with original songs in films starring Keanu Reeves and Mia Tyler, Tu-PO (Temple Schultz) another mom with a background in classical music and jazz, and Ad-Rik (Rikky Harriman) the “anti-mom” or counterbalancing meat in this maternal sandwich. Have a listen and look at “Mom Just Quit The Band!,” if you dare. (WARNING: NSFW, of course.)
