Hey, die-hard fans of the Jim Henson universe and podcast lovers, we’d like to tell you about a new podcast you’re going to love. Long long ago in a universe far far away (1984-1991 to be precise), The Jim Henson Company, in conjunction with Marvel Productions, presented the world with The Muppet Babies. This wasn’t just any cartoon. It started the trend of relaunching popular cartoon characters as younger versions of themselves. What could be better than watching the antics of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Scooter, Skeeter, Rowlf the Dog, Gonzo…in their full adult form? Baby versions of that lovable, fuzzy crew! So, the Emmy-winning program brought us a gaggle of pint-sized muppet living comfortably under the care of Nanny (only seen from the shoulders down) enjoying many an imaginary adventure. So you may ask, “what does a podcast have to do with all this?”
Ah, good question! Co-hosts Eileen Mary O’Connell and Matt Manser have created SKEETER-IAL: A Muppet Babies Investigation. Each episode these cartoon mystery crusaders take a look at a new episode of the program in which they look for clues as to why the Muppet Skeeter was never seen as an adult Muppet. Your Skeeter-ial co-hosts are joined by a new guest each episode who aids in deciphering this long unsolved puzzle. The first two episodes (embedded for your listening pleasure) feature guests Bennie Arthur (Drunk History, Pickle and Peanut) and Dani Fernandez (Krillin It podcast). Some of my favorite conspiracy theories devised so far include a rift between Muppet siblings and Skeeter joining that gremlin in the Twilight Zone. Catch new episodes every Monday if you want to help with this The Muppet Babies investigation.
Mentions: We think Skeeter is hidden away in Richard Simmons’ house right now! Tell no one! Listen to more episodes on Art19 & iTunes.
