By now you are probably quite familiar with the true crime story of Brendan Ray Dassey. The popular Netflix series Making A Murder documented both Brendan and his uncle Steven Avery’s trials following the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005. Brendan’s trial lasted 9 days and he was found guilty of the heinous acts. Brendan, almost 18 at the time, was tried and sentenced as an adult. The series intimated that Dassey’s confession was probably coerced when he was interrogated four times over a two-day period without a parent, attorney or any other adult present. He was denied a retrial in 2010. However, this month Dassey’s team received some good news when a federal court concluded his constitutional rights were violated and his conviction was thrown out for the crimes. He may not be out of jail yet but when he’s released, he and his family will travel to Florida to see his favorite sport, Wrestlemania. Let’s celebrate his conviction being overturned with THE BALLAD OF BRENDAN DASSEY by comedian Matthew Patrick Davis. (WARNING: Some language. Loads of hard core truths!)
May justice prevail.
