Day One of the Con, Thursday, July 21st, there will be back-to-back panels featuring Drunk History followed by the new animated series Legends of Chamberlain Heights. The Drunk History panel will be moderated by Jack McBrayer who will be joined by co-creator/host/director Derek Waters and special guests series recurring guest stars Mae Whitman, Steve Berg and Duncan Trussell (at the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel at 6pm) for a sneak peek of the upcoming season, a history laden Q&A and plenty of that trademark Drunk History indulgence.
Comedy Central’s newest addition to it’s animated lineup, Legends of Chamberlain Heights will put it’s best face forward at Comic-Con. The series is set to premiere this fall following three benchwarmer friends, Jamal, Grover, Milk, through their freshman year of, eeek!, high-school. The Simpsons vet artist Brad Ableson developed the original concept of the show with former UCLA basketball players Quinn Hawking and Josiah Johnson, who offered up their person “legendary benchwarming experience” as inspiration for the main characters. The series is executive produced by Bento Box Entertainment’s Joel Kuwahara and Scott Greenberg (Bob’s Burgers, Brickleberry, The Awesomes), along with showrunner Devon Shepard (Being Mary Jane, House of Lies, Weeds). The fun starts at 6:45pm at Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel.
Day Two of Comedy Central insanity, aka Friday, July 22nd, offers up a real treat for South Park fans. The Hall H South Park 20 panel will be moderated by The Nerdist himself, @midnight’s Chris Hardwick. Panelists will discuss the gradual development of the series over the last two decades, field fan questions, and give an exclusive sneak peek of South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the next-gen video game from Ubisoft. Also at the Con, you can personally celebrate 20 years of South Park with the South Park 20 Experience, where fans can insert themselves into 20 iconic and fan favorite scenes, check out episodes from all seasons of South Park screening at the Hulu Viewing Lounge, see real-world items from Ubisoft’s new South Park video game at The Coon & Friends Experience, plus get a look at curated South Park artwork from esteemed artists and a retrospective gallery featuring original animation cells from the pilot episode of South Park. The South Park 20 Experience will be open the duration of the Con at the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade Park (across from the San Diego Convention Center).
The comedy excitement ramps up on Friday with the return of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. The Meltdown is preparing for it’s third season of laughter with new episodes due out this fall. Based on the live, ongoing LA stand-up show that happens in the back of Meltdown Comics, hosts Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani offer up the best entertainers in the biz with special backstage footage and more. At the Con you can see a FREE performance of the stnad-up show with special guests at The American Comedy Co. on 818 6th Ave at 8:00 p.m. Woo hoo!
