YouTube, the video sharing website, has not just made billions for it’s founders. The site has made stars out it’s most popular content creators. Many of these YouTubers have made lucretive careers from their video popularity going on to find success in other areas. However, sometimes that dream of a devoted fanbase and internet success can fall short. In the fictional documentary web series REBRAND by stand-up comedian, writer and cartoonist Mo Welch, we watch YouTube star Lee’s fall from grace in which she must face the harsh realities of internet fame and re-branding her image. The evolution is, of course, caught on video. Watch the first four episodes this instance!
REBRAND E1: After a falling out with her YouTube partner, Lee must face a new reality
REBRAND E2 – Making Money on Youtube: Not everyone can rake in the dough on YouTube. We find out Rite Aid is generous enough to donate money to Lee’s bank account.
REBRAND E3 – Coming Out Of The Closet: Lee makes a very personal announcement to her YouTube fans. “Awkward!” Is it the truth or is she doing it for the subs?
REBRAND E4 – Casting a YouTuber: Lee gets a huge opportunity. She’s totally pumped for this major audition. (You’ll recognize friend of Comedy Cake Shirin Najafi in this one. Squee!)
