HOLY S***! MADtv is 20 years old?! Jeepers! For you post-millennials AKA Gen Z types, MADtv was an award-winning American comedy sketch television series inspired by Mad magazine which first aired on Fox October 14, 1995. It was created by Fax Bahr and Adam Small who left the series at the end of the third season. Some of the amazing performers who starred on the show included:
Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele, Playing House), Jordan Peele (Key & Peele, Trip Tank), Michael McDonald (Spy, Scrubs) Ike Barinholtz (New Girl), Alex Borstein (Family Guy, Bordertown), Matt Braunger (Big Dumb Animal, Shovel Fighter), Frank Caliendo (Hype, Frank TV), Mo Collins (Parks & Rec, Dirty Grandpa), Andrew Daly (Review), Stephanie Weir (The Comedians), Christian Duguay (Gandhi Show), Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory), Taran Killam (SNL), Bobby Lee (Pineapple Express, Tubbin’ with Tash) Artie Lang (Jim Gaffigan Show, Inside Amy Schumer), Arden Myrin (Fresh Off The Boat, 2 Broke Girls), Will Sasso (Family Guy, Happy Gilmore) and so many more!
Just some of the beloved characters and impressions that were generated by this 14 season series include Bornstein’s Ms. Swan, Barinholtz’s Dane Cook, Caliendo’s George W. Bush, McDonald’s The Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man, Collins’ Trina and Lorraine Swanson, Daly’s Bill Maher, Lee’s Kim Jong-il, Weir’s Dot, Sasso’s Randy Newman, Keegan-Michael Key’s Coach Hines, and my all time favorite McDonald’s Stuart.
