A poet that’s toured with Eugene Mirman AND had fun in a ghost town with Kurt Braunohler? Sign me up, please. You really don’t hear much about poets these days. And you rarely associate poets with the state of “being cool.” However, it appears those worlds have collided. Derrick Brown has not only hung out with comedians, but rubbed elbows with some serious musicians like The Flaming Lips, Delta Spirit, Richard Swift, and The Black Keys. When he opened for the band Cold War Kids, it was chronicled in the documentary poetry concert film You Belong Everywhere. Are you impressed yet? Brown is bringing his unique brand of poetry along with fellow actress/poet Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia, Two and a Half Men) to Los Angeles today through May 6th. On this motorcycle poetry tour Brown will read from a good portion of his collection including the book Our Poison Horse and the collection released on his own press, Write Bloody Publishing. Amber Tamblyn will read from her new book, Dark Sparkler (Harper Perennial). If you like poetry and humor get to know these great artists of our time. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery and Double Decker Poetry Bus Party events are sold out, but you can still get tickets for the following events in LA:
5/02- The Getty Museum
5/04- Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen at The Virgil (DERRICK ONLY)
5/06- The Huron Substation (DERRICK ONLY)
Get on the poetry bandwagon!
