Habibi is an Arabic word that translates to “my love,” “my dear,” “my darling,” or even “beloved.” You will feel that love TOMORROW night as The Hollywood Improv plays venue to the FIRST EVER stand-up showcase featuring exclusively Middle Eastern/North African (MENA for short) comedians. This will be the fourth edition of HILARIOUS HABIBIS that you, without a doubt, should add to your calendar. The show, which has been featured in Alaraby TV and Between East, was created in response to a 2022 report from The WGA West’s Middle Eastern Writers Committee that found Middle Eastern writers decidedly underrepresented. Hilarious Habibis “aims to provide an opportunity to connect Middle Eastern artists with industry for casting and staffing purposes, inspiring greater inclusion and more accurate representation in media.” In addition to several comedians of Syrian, Moroccan, and Lebanese descent, Canadian born Dave Merheje (from Ramy on Hulu) will be headlining:
Kari Assad
Feraz Ozel
Latif Tayour
Joy Mamey
Lynn Maleh
Gena B. Jones
hosted by Gena B. Jones and Lynn Maleh!
Things are about to heat up because, HELLO, it’s a friggin heat wave, but also because some talented performers will be showing the comedy love. Enjoy!
