Apparently, I’m not the only one who appreciates a solid SCI-FI show. Anyone ever hear of series like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, The Expanse…? All those amazing, honest to goodness sci-fi franchises are beloved and have legions of devoted fans, but might the genre be in need of some new Midi-chlorian blood? The answer to that question is an emphatic “YES.” So who’s volunteering to take on the job of creating a brand new pilot script? Looks like a bunch of comedians. Wow, do they have to do EVERYTHING these days? “YES.” Camina Drummer and Bobbie Draper would volunteer to help out, but they are busy saving the universe.
TODAY launches a brand NEW eight-part podcast where comedians Ryan Beil, Maddy Kelly, and Mark Chavez attempt to get in the weeds going from pitch to full blown seriously nerdy sci-fi pilot script. Yes, you read that correctly. As they hit the wall, they will consult with actual Hollywood experts who have worked on familiar series, as well as science fiction superstars like Neil deGrasse Tyson (Star Talk, Cosmos), Rainn Wilson (The Office), and Neill Blomkamp (District 9). Once they’ve completing writing, they will get professional actors to reads their script, bringing their creation to life. FRAK! (See what I did there?!) It’s time to follow the comedians on their journey with LET’S MAKE A SCI-FI. OK, as Avasarala would say, ”I like getting s**t done.” So, listen to the first two episodes NOW!
