You know what they say, “history is written by the victors.” Or in this case reimagined! TONIGHT and Sunday, November 21st, experience BLOODY MARY: LIVE! in which Olivia Miller will bring the former Queen of England and Ireland, Mary Tudor, known to her opponents as Bloody Mary, to 2020 but in the form of a stand-up comedian. After 500 years of being known as a brutal religious reformer, Mary’s taking to the mic to defend her legacy with a set that’s “part-revisionism, part-revenge, and part-coping mechanism for the crippling daddy issues that have plagued her all her life – and in death. She’s mean, she’s queen, get used to it.” Yes, Mary means business, folks. She will joke about everything from “boys to burnings at the stake.” You know, the usual fare.
The show has it’s premiere at Brown University in 2019 and then it’s Boston premiere at American Repertory Theater’s OBERON. Bloody Mary was premiered in New York at the PIT Underground, and made a London theater debut at Greenwich Theatre in February of 2020. The show was programmed for Edinburgh Fringe 2020, but the pandemic pushed that run to the 2021 Coventry City of Culture Festival in collab with Assembly, where it received stellar reviews. Come see what they are all raving about, and if you want to learn more about Mary’s past, check out the podcast “Bloody Mary: On Air” to take explore Tudor history with Olivia and a panel of knowledgeable experts. Enjoy!
