Monday, November 9th prepare yourself for betrayal, confusion, chaos, and humor all tied to the practically Shakespearean events that take place within a Renaissance Faire troupe. Yes, you read that correctly. The CURTIS & OTIS scripted comedy podcast follows two bumbling, middle-aged bachelors who soon find themselves roommates after the Renaissance Faire troupe they are traveling with abandons them in Bakersfield, California. Left in the lurch, the two plan to collect enough bread ($$$) to fly back home when, low and behold, Otis wins $5k on a scratch Lotto ticket. What dumb luck! Alas, that luck is short-lived because a scheming con artist/actress (and daughter of a local mob boss), Augusta, steals the ticket. It is up to Otis and Curtis to recover that ticket and hatch some good, old-fashioned revenge. Did we mention, it may be Otis’ fault this whole predicament happened in the first place?
Curtis & Otis is the creation of writer/director/voice actress Allison Volk (Deany Bean Is Dead) with Colin Martin and Bodie Newcomb taking on the title roles, and the rest of the talented cast including Paul Tigue, Paulina Lule, Kaitlin Huwe, Tess Lina, Pete Uribe and Noah Strattan. The podcast was originally written as a feature film, and the script advanced to the second round at the Austin Film Festival screenplay competition, making the coveted Red List on Coverfly. As, you guessed it, the pandemic interrupted everything and led to the shut down of pre-production. However, as hope always springs eternal, Volk shifted the project to a seven-episode audio series, which will make its premiere this Monday! Per Volk, “It’s always a pleasure to watch a piece of writing come to life. This group of artists is incredibly open-hearted and wildly talented, and I’m so grateful they were willing to be part of this project!” Today we have for you the first delightful episode that will leave you SOOO looking forward to the rest of the tale. Enjoy!
