Have you been playing junior detective as you watch the sleuth characters (played by Martin Short, Steve Martin & Selena Gomez) trying to solve a murder and telling their tale via podcast in Only Murders in the Building? Well, what if the stories were of the actual true crime variety?! And the folks bringing you all the details were a charming comedy husband and wife couple? Then you’d be listening to Muriel’s Murders! Muriel Montgomery (Hella in Your Thirties) happens to be a hardcore fan of the genre, while her husband, Nick Casalini (Hella in Your Thirties), is much less enthused about the whole business. SO each week Muriel handpicks a famous (or yet to be famous) case that she think will make him a fan. Yes, it’s important Nick must as quiet as possible experiencing whatever story Muriel forces him to hear, but don’t worry, there’s no torture involved. The best part is when Nick does eventually get hooked he starts asking those forbidden questions!
In the latest episode, titled The Krugersdorp Killings & The Devilsdorp Documentary, Muriel gets into the currently viral murder documentary of South Africa, Devilsdorp. The doc covers a series of brutal satanic murders that occurred in Krugersdorp of the South African Gauteng Province, concocted by a self-described “42nd Generational Witch” named Ceclia Steyn. The Showmax original series is directed by Devid Enright (narrated by Jana Marx), and features original and trial footage, and guess what? Muriel breaks it all down like a pro! You may need to douse yourself in holy water and crosses before you listen to this one because it’s filled with real stories of revenge, wealth disparity, squatter camps, family strife, goths, religious zealotry, samurai swords, witchcraft, lone wolf investigators and that’s just skimming the surface. AND once you think you’ve pieces everything together, there’s even more questions that lie ahead. Listen below, and don’t get too scared because Halloween is just around the bend! (Also, there’s always humor to make you feel a tad bit safer).
