Maybe you heard of Kings Of Leon being the first band to release their album as an NFT or Larva Labs’ CryptoPunks 10,000 pixel-art characters selling at Sotheby’s for $11.8 million? This may be the summer of love, but it’s also the season of NFT fever! So what is an NFT and when’s comedy participating in this madness? An NFT or “non-fungible token” is a digital object (ie. drawing, animation, piece of music, photo, video, etc.) with a certificate of authenticity created on the blockchain. We could get into the complexities of blockchains and bitcoin, but we don’t have all month! Just think of it as a very secure way of proving that what you have is legit. Now back to the comedy thing. Canada’s first record label dedicated to releasing stand-up and sketch comedy albums, COMEDY RECORDS, will be releasing a limited-edition series of NFTs with Fanaply (creator of blockchain-based digital collectibles for the world’s biggest fans in sports, music, comedy, and entertainment), featuring exclusive digital access to the Comedy Records Presents 10 Year compilation album.
That means fans will get to securely embrace their fandom with a commemorative piece of digital merchandise that unlocks exclusive content! There are three editions of Comedy Records NFTs available, all of which come with a FREE download of Comedy Records Presents 10 Year. The work was released in 2020 and was previously only available on vinyl, and SiriusXM Comedy Channels. The first edition NFT also includes a signed digital poster and a rare, signed digital basketball card, while the second edition NFT comes with a signed digital poster. The Comedy Records NFTs feature comedians K Trevor Wilson, Arthur Simeon, Clare Belford, Monty Scott, Nick Reynoldson, Jay & Eytan, Todd Graham, Mark DeBonis, Efthimios Nasiopoulos, Pat Burtscher, Dena Jackson, Garrett Jamieson and Sprattacus! And if you are worried that you don’t own cryptocurrencies or possess a crypto wallet, they’ve got that covered! Purchases will be handled as standard e-commerce transactions, so no head-scratching tech to worry about when participating in this new form of collectible memorabilia. Yay! The limited-edition Comedy Records series of NFTs will be available Thursday, July 15th at 12pm ET at fanaply.com/comedyrecords. Supplies are, obviously, limited, so get em while they last!
